What does “off-grid” mean?

Wild Roots Gathering takes place in a natural, off-grid setting. Electricity, Wi-Fi and mobile signal are limited, so please bring a fully charged phone and power bank.

How do I get to Wild Roots Gathering?

We are located in Val Mercador, Graça, Central Portugal, approximately a two-hour drive from both Lisbon and Porto airports.

The nearest bus stops are:

• Figueiró dos Vinhos

• Pedrógão Grande

The nearest train stations are:

• Pombal

• Coimbra-B

Guests travelling by public transport will need to arrange onward transport from the bus or train station to the gathering site.

Full directions and arrival information will be shared with ticket holders before the event.

What is the road access like?

Access to the gathering is via an unpaved forest track. The road is suitable for cars, campervans and caravans, but the surface is uneven in places.

Please drive slowly and carefully, particularly when arriving in a larger vehicle or towing a caravan.

What toilet and shower facilities are available?

We have compost toilets and simple spring-water showers. Only natural, organic and biodegradable soaps, shampoos and personal-care products may be used.

Can we swim in the river?

Yes. The river has natural cold-water plunge pools rather than maintained swimming pools. Expect mud, leaves, stones and other natural debris.

The ground can be slippery, and children must always be closely supervised. Swimming is at your own risk.

Is childcare provided?

The children’s area will be staffed from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

This is not a drop-off childcare service. Parents remain responsible for their children throughout the gathering. Children are supervised by the team during organised workshops and activities only.

What food will be available?

A wide range of freshly prepared food will be available to purchase, including vegetarian and vegan options.

Guests with allergies or specific dietary needs should speak directly with the food vendors.

Is drinking water available?

Drinking water will be available to purchase.

There is a natural spring on the land, but the flow is low during September and the water is not filtered, so it should not be relied upon as the main source of drinking water.

Can I cook at my campsite?

No. Due to fire regulations, cooking is not permitted in the forest or at individual campsites.

​

Are fires allowed?

No personal campfires, candles or open flames are permitted. Smoking is only allowed in designated areas.

​

What should I bring?

Please bring a reusable water bottle, torch or headlamp, power bank, natural washing products, suitable outdoor footwear, warm evening clothing, sun protection, insect repellent, swimwear and a waterproof jacket.

What is the site like?

The gathering takes place in a natural forest valley and riverside environment. The ground may be uneven, steep, dusty, muddy or slippery.

Some pathways will be lit, but many areas will remain dark at night. Please bring a torch and wear suitable footwear.

Is the site accessible?

The natural and uneven terrain may be difficult for guests with limited mobility. Please contact us before booking to discuss access requirements.

Is this a conventional festival site?

No. Wild Roots Gathering is intentionally simple, natural and off-grid.

Expect compost toilets, limited electricity and internet, natural cold-water pools and simple facilities—all surrounded by forest, river and community.
