Gravito is a truly magical spot with many acres of land surrounded by forests. Like many “aldeias” of its kind it was abandoned for many years, leaving the work of generations to be overtaken by wilderness.

 

For the last 10 years, the restoration of the buildings and the terraces bit by bit has been implemented with the help of family, friends, and volunteers. For the first 7 years, the main focus was the creation of a retreat center with domes and tipis, and a big geodesic dome for group practice. 

 

After the fires in 2017, 1 hectare of land has been reverse terraced, swales installed as well a large reservoir created. On the terraces, hundreds of trees, shrubs, medicinal plants, and flowers in combination and succession have been planted and is being expanded as funds become available.
